Question : KANNAD PROGRAMMES FROM DD KARNATAKA



(a) whether the Prasar Bharati has taken any steps to popularise Kannad programmes in its Doordarshan Channel in Karnataka;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any emphasis is laid on telecasting educative and informative programmes based on the culture of the State; and

(d) if so, the steps taken in that direction?

(a) & (b): Prasar Bharati has informed that Kannada programmes are being produced and telecast from DDK, Bangalore and Gulbarga regularly. These programmes are relayed terrestrially all over Karnataka and are also available in satellite mode throughout the country.

Prasar Bharati has further informed that Kannada programmes are being telecast on DD-1 channel (terrestrial) on all days of the week, at different time schedules.

The regional language satellite channel `Chandana` is also telecasting programmes in Kannada, round the clock.

(c) & (d): Prasar Bharati has informed that due emphasis is given on telecasting educative and informative programmes, based on the culture of Karnataka. Prasar Bharati has informed that programmes on Women, children, Youth and special minority languages like Tulu, Konkani, Kodava programmes are being telecast which are not only informative and educative but also present the cultural heritage of Karnataka. Special efforts are being taken by Prasar Bharati to promote Kannada culture and languages by producing innovative programmes like Kavya Samputa, Sanchaya and Kavi Samaya.
