(a): Table below presents the quantity of foodgrains produced in Andhra Pradesh during the last three years (2004-05 to 2006-07):

(b): On the basis of monthly per capita quantities of consumption reported in the National Sample Survey 61st Round Report on `Household Consumption of Various Goods and Services in India 2004-05` and the population projections given by the Office of the Registrar General of India, the consumption requirement of foodgrains in Andhra Pradesh during 2004-05 was estimated at 13.46 million tonnes (including seed, feed and wastage) which increased to 13.61 million tonnes during 2005-06 and 13.75 million tonnes during 2006-07.

(c): To increase the production of rice, wheat and coarse cereals in the country,including Andhra Pradesh, the Integrated Cereals Development Programme (ICDP) in rice, wheat and coarse cereals based cropping systems have been under implementation since October 2000. In order to further increase the production of rice, wheat and pulses, the Government has launched National Food Security Mission (NFSM) from Rabi 2007-08. The NFSM aims at increasing the production of rice by 10 million tonnes, wheat by 8 million tonnes and pulses by 2 million tonnes in the targeted districts of the country, including Andhra Pradesh, by the end of the 11th Plan i.e. 2011-2012.
