(a) The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has been entrusted with the task of
laying down safety norms for our nuclear plants. The AERB has issued Safety
Codes for Sitting, Design, Quality Assurance and Operation of these plants. These codes
are supported by Safety Guides which provide guidance on meeting the Requirements of
the Codes. A number of safety guides dealing with various aspects of the Requirements
of the Codes have also been issued by the AERB. These codes and guides
are updated periodically based on operating experience of nuclear power plants nationally
and internationally. This ensures continuous enhancement of safety of our atomic
power plants.

(c) Does not arise.
(d) & (e) No, Sir. The Government, in 1983, constituted
the Atomic Energy & Regulatory Board (AERB) to carry out the regulatory
and safety functions for all nuclear energy related activities in the country
which includes the nuclear power plants. The AERB is carrying out these functions in an
effective and independent manner.
(f) No, Sir. There are no reactors in India which can be called obsolete.
(g) Does not arise.
