(a) The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has been entrusted with the task of laying down safety norms for our nuclear plants. The AERB has issued Safety Codes for Sitting, Design, Quality Assurance and Operation of these plants. These codes are supported by Safety Guides which provide guidance on meeting the Requirements of the Codes. A number of safety guides dealing with various aspects of the Requirements of the Codes have also been issued by the AERB. These codes and guides are updated periodically based on operating experience of nuclear power plants nationally and internationally. This ensures continuous enhancement of safety of our atomic power plants.
