Question : Reconstruction of Roads in Kerala

(a) whether the Union Government has received any request from the State Government of Kerala for financial assistance for reconstruction of roads damaged due to recent flood in that State;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the response of the Union Government in this regard;

(c) whether the Union Government has any statistics regarding financial assistance given to various States for construction/development of roads and if so, the details of such assistance during each of the last five years, State-wise; and

(d) whether the Union Government has any plan to give more financial assistance to Kerala for reconstruction and improvement of roads and if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b) This Ministry is primarily responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) in the country. This Ministry has not received any specific request for financial assistance for reconstruction of roads damaged due to recent floods in Kerala. For maintenance of various NHs in Kerala including those damaged by 2018 floods, this Ministry allocated Rs. 121.10 crore to the Kerala State PWD. Besides, strengthening works in 123 km of various National Highways in Kerala were sanctioned for Rs. 188.53 Crore during 2018-19.

(c)&(d) State-wise and year-wise financial allocation given by this Ministry to various States for development of NHs during last five years is enclosed as Annexure-I and for development of State roads under Central Road Fund (CRF) Scheme, now Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) during the same period is enclosed as Annexure-II.
