Question : OUT OF ORDER TELEPHONES IN BIHAR



(a) the number of telephone connections provided in Bihar during the last three years and till date, district-wise;

(b) the number of telephones lying out of order in the State at present;

(c) whether the rural telephone system has collapsed in various districts of the State;

(d) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) 385621 telephone connections have been provided in Bihar during the last three years (1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-2000) and till 30.11.2000. District-wise details are given in Annexure.
(b) As on 30.11.2000, 13% of the telephones were out of order in Bihar due to various reasons.
(c) No, Sir.
(d) & (e): Does not arise in view of (c) above.
