(c) the steps being taken in this regard by the Railways?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI K.H. MUNIYAPPA)

(a) As per statutory obligation, Railway liability is limited to provide new level crossings in consultation with the State Government at the time of laying new railway lines. Provision of a new level crossing after 10 years of commissioning of line is carried out as deposit work. Sponsoring authority is required to bear the initial capital cost as well as capitalized cost of annual recurring maintenance and operational cost. In general, new level crossings are not being permitted on open line from safety considerations.

(b) and (c) The work of provision of level crossing (if any) is taken up along with new line construction and completed with commissioning of projects.
