(a): State-wise details on number of hospital admissions and Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) treatments availed by Employees’ State Insurances (ESI) Insured Persons (IPs) and beneficiaries during the period from 2014-15 to 2020-21 are at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.

(b): Under the ESI scheme, the extent of medical care include primary, secondary and super specialty which is provided to its beneficiaries either in-house or through empanelled hospitals.
Before 2014, ESIC provided coverage of medical facilities to ESI beneficiaries through a network of 151 ESI hospitals, 1418 ESI dispensaries, 1017 Insured Medical Practitioners (IMPs). Super-speciality services were provided mainly through tie-up private and government hospitals.
At present, medical facilities are extended through a network of 160 ESI hospitals including 08 Medical colleges, 02 Dental colleges, 1517 ESI dispensaries, 76 Dispensaries Cum Branch Offices ( DCBO), 1003 Insured Medical Practitioners (IMPs) and 1451 ESIC empanelled hospitals.
Super-speciality services such as interventional cardiology, medical and surgical oncology, nephrology with dialysis, paediatric surgery, plastic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, urology, spine surgeries, hip and knee replacement surgeries and transplant surgeries are also being provided in some of the ESIC hospitals.
(c): ESIC provides medical services including ICU in implemented areas through its own hospitals. Further, hospitals are also empanalled for providing secondary and tertiary care services. In addition, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has collaborated with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in 157 districts of the country for providing cashless medical services to its beneficiaries. ESI Corporation has given in-principle approval for setting up of 6 new Hospitals in Tamil Nadu namely, Tirupur, Sriperumbudur, Dindigul, Vaniyambadi, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari.
(d): ESI Corporation has accorded approval for upgradation of existing ESIC Hospital at Tirunelveli from existing 50 to 100 beds and ESIC, (KK Nagar Hospital), Chennai from existing 470 to 550 beds. Based on the expansion services and new equipments are also procured. As per recommendation of structural audit report of Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, it has been decided to demolish and reconstruct the ESI Hospital, Madurai. The work has been assigned to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on 21.02.2022.
(e): The number of hospitals being run by the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in the country including in the state of Tamil Nadu alongwith the details of number of Insured Persons and beneficiaries under the ESI Scheme is at Annexure-III.
(f): Setting up of an Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital is based on the Insurance Person (IP) population in an area based on ESIC norms. To provide medical care including specialised services, approval for setting up of 54 new ESI hospitals has been given as per details at Annexure-IV.
