(b) if so, the details and the status thereof, proposal-wise; and

(c) the time by which the said proposal is likely to be cleared?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR STEEL (SHRI VISHNU DEO SAI)

(a)to(c): In terms of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014, SAIL was to examine within six months from the appointed day i.e. 02.06.2014, the feasibility of establishing an integrated steel plant in Khammam district of Telangana. The feasibility report was submitted by SAIL on 02.12.2014. Thus, SAIL has completed the task assigned to it as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014. As per the feasibility report, setting up of steel plant is prima facie not financially viable. On a request made by the Government of Telangana, a Task Force comprising of representatives from the Central & State Government, SAIL, RINL and NMDC was constituted on 06.02.2015 to suggest ways and means to make the project financially viable. An MoU has been signed between Telangana Government and Geological Survey of India (GSI) on 14.03.2016 for comprehensive survey of iron ore reserve. The feasibility of the steel plant, among other things, is dependent on the outcome of the GSI report.
