Question : Violation of Norms by TV Channels

(a) whether a number of television channels have reportedly been violating the norms laid down for telecasting the programmes/ advertisements on their channels in the recent past;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the names of the television channels which have been found to be violating the norms for the purpose?

STATEMENT AS REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 95 FOR ANSWER ON 08.02.2018

(a) to (c) All programmes and advertisements telecast on private satellite TV channels and transmitted/re-transmitted through the Cable TV network, DTH platform and HITS are required to adhere to the Programme Code and Advertising Code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 framed thereunder. The Act does not provide for pre-censorship of any programme or advertisement telecast on such TV channels. However, all programmes and advertisements are required to be in conformity with the said Programme and Advertising Codes which contain a whole range of parameters to regulate programmes and advertisements on TV channels. Action is taken against TV channels as per Uplinking and Downlinking Guidelines whenever any violation of the aforesaid Programme and Advertising Codes is established. Names of the channels found to have violated the Programme and Advertising Codes is Annexed.
