Question : Setting up of Wagon Repair Workshop

(a) whether Railways has sanctioned a wagon repair workshop to be set up in Badnera Junction in Amravati District of Maharashtra;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the details of estimated expenditure likely to be incurred in setting up of the said workshop and the funds so far sanctioned, released and utilised in this regard;
(d) whether the estimated cost of setting up workshop has now increased due to delay in the project; and
(e) if so, the details and the corrective steps taken by the Railways for timely completion and operation of the said workshop ?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3368 BY SHRI RAMDAS C. TADAS TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 23.03.2022 REGARDING SETTING UP OF WAGON REPAIR WORKSHOP

(a) and (b): Yes, Sir. The work of setting up of wagon repair (periodical overhauling) workshop at Badnera in Maharashtra was sanctioned under Supplementary Demands for Grants in 2010-11 at a cost of ? 247.57 crores.
(c) The detailed estimate of the work was sanctioned at a cost of ? 299.37 crores. The expenditure of about ? 329.45 crores has been incurred in the work till Feb’2022. The revised estimate of the work is under process for sanction.
(d) and (e): The estimated cost of the work has been increased due to reasons like additional cost of land acquisition, earth filling upto 4 metres for levelling of ground, removal of top layer of black cotton soil and refilling etc.
The work has been delayed due to COVID restrictions in Amravati district in 2020 and 2021, and delay in handing over of final stretch of land measuring 1.6 Km to Railways by State Govt.
Nearly, 80% of the project has been completed. The work is targeted to be completed in the year 2022-23.
