NO.517 FOR 30TH APRIL, 2002 REGARDING ACCELERATED URBAN WATER
SUPPLY PROGRAMME
(a)&(b): The details of schemes approved under the Accelerated
Urban Water Supply Programme (AUWSP) and pending as on 31st
March, 2000, 31st March, 2001 and 31st December, 2001 State-wise
are at Annexure-I.
(c)&(d): The details of towns eligible under the Centrally
sponsored Accelerated Urban Water Supply Programme (AUWSP) as
per 1991 census, the number of towns approved and funds released
under the scheme State-wise are at Annexures II and III. As on
31st March, 2002, water supply schemes for 660 towns have been
approved under the AUWSP at a total estimated cost of Rs.829.33
crores and Central share of Rs.360.57 crores has been released
to the States for implementation of the sanctioned schemes.
Funds are not released scheme-wise to States but in a lump sum.
