Question : CONSTRUCTION OF SLUICE GATE

(a) whether there is any proposal for construction of sluice gate post-tsunami as recommended by M.S. Swaminathan Foundation to reclaim the Agriculture land in Southern Group of Islands and Great Nicobar Islands of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands,

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the said gate is likely to be constructed;

(c) the total funds received under TRP since 2005 by Andaman and Nicobar Administration;

(d) the total expenditure incurred so far by Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) and PRIs;

(e) the total agriculture land physically reclaimed so far, gram panchayat-wise; and

(f) the total funds lying unspent with the Administration and since when?

(a): The A&N Administration has intimated that a report was submitted by M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation to Administration titled: Action Plan for Development of post-tsunami “New Andamans” during May, 2005. However, there is no specific recommendation in the Report regarding the construction of sluice gates to reclaim the Agriculture land in Southern Group of Islands and Great Nicobar Islands of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

(b): Does not arise in view of (a) above.

(c): The details of the funds released under Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package (RGRP) & Additional Central Assistance (ACA) against the funds received is as follows:
