MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI SRIPRAKASH JAISWAL)

(a), (b) & (c): A Committee is being constituted to review the implementation of the recommendations of all the past Committees constituted for improving the country`s policing system.

(d) & (e): As regards replacing the old Police Act of 1861 with a Model Police Act, the National Police Commission (NPC) in its 8th report had included the draft of a new Police Act to replace the Police Act of 1861. The 8th report of the National Police Commission was sent to the State Governments/UTs Administrations in 1983 for considering the Model Police Act and as per available information a number of State Governments have initiated action to replace the old Police Act. Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to circulate a fresh Model Police Act among all the States shortly.
