THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVENATION (PROF, SANWAR LAL JAT)

(a) & (b) No, Madam. There is no specific proposal to rejuvenate the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries. It is the responsibility of the State Government and concerned local bodies to set up proper facilities for collection and treatment of sewage and to ensure that untreated sewage does not fail into the rivers. Government of India is supplementing the efforts of the State Governments in pollution abatement in identified stretches of various rivers through the centrally sponsored scheme of National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) of Ministry of Environment & Forests and Climate Change. The various steps taken for improvement of Water Quality on river Brahmaputra and its tributaries are given at Annex - I.
