Question : Increase in Crop Insurance Premium

(a) whether the insurance premium amount has been increased under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) by expanding its coverage;

(b) if so, the details of the increased amount; and

(c) the details of the area of land covered under PMFBY in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh?

(a) & (b): Actuarial/bidded premium rate is charged by tahe insurance companies under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), but farmers have to pay maximum of 2% of sum insured for Kharif and 1.5% for Rabi food and oilseed crops and 5% for commercial/horticultural crops. Remaining part of actuarial premium is shared Central and State government on 50:50 basis except in North-Eastern States where it is 90:10 with effect from Kharif 20202 season. The premium amount payable to insurance companies also depends on sum insured and coverage under insured crops.

(c): 29.44 lakh ha. and 110.25 lakh ha. of cropped area is covered in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh respectively during 2019-20 under PMFBY.
