Question : SIX LANING OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS



(a) the total length of National Highways (NHs) and the length out of which is two lane, four lane and six lane, State/UT-wise;

(b) the criteria/norms laid down by the Government for six laning of National Highways;

(c) whether the Government proposes to convert National Highways in the country into six lane including the stretch between Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway;

(d) if so, the details thereof including the proposals received/approved by the Government for six laning of highways in the country, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard and the time by which various stretches of National Highways are likely to be converted into six lane?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 251 FOR ANSWER ON 24TH JULY, 2014 ASKED BY SHRI MOHANBHAI KALYANJIBHAI KUNDARIYA AND SHRI NARANBHAI BHIKHABHAI KACHHADIA REGARDING SIX LANING OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

(a) The State / Union Territory and lane-wise details of National Highways (NHs) in the country are annexed.

(b) to (e) The Government has approved six-laning of 6,500 km of NHs comprising entire Golden Quadrilateral of about 5,700 km and other 800 km identified high density NH corridor under Phase-V of National Highways Development Project (NHDP) in October, 2006. As on May, 2014 6-laning has been completed in 1,999 km and for rest of the stretches works are at various stages of progress. Feasibility study has been taken up for 6-laning of Ahmedabad-Bamanbore- Samakhiali section of NH-8A and Bamanbore-Rajkot Section of NH-8B and pre-construction activities are in progress. At this stage it is pre-mature to indicate any time frame for completion of Phase-V of NHDP.
