Question : Loss of Revenue to Tourism Industry during Pandemic

(a) whether the Government has taken note of the high revenue losses being suffered by the tourism sector in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has received any recommendations from the associations of tourism sector urging the Government to come to their rescue in this dithering situation;
(c) if so, the details of the concessions and exemptions sought for their survival and the steps being taken by the Government in this regard;
(d) whether the Government has any plan to boost tourism sector with protective measures and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has issued any notification in this regard and if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government to get tourism sector on progressive track?

(a): The Ministry of Tourism does not maintain data on revenue generated from tourism. However, the Ministry has engaged National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) to conduct study on “India and the Coronavirus Pandemic: Economic Losses for Households Engaged in Tourism and Policies for Recovery”.

(b) & (c): Yes, sir. The recommendations from the Associations of tourism sector for restoration of the sector is at Annexure-I.

(d) & (e): The Ministry of Tourism recognizes the importance of protective steps and relief measures to ensure the survival and revival of the industry. The steps taken in the direction of getting the tourism sector on progressive track are at Annexure-II.
