Question : GROUNDING OF MIG AIRCRAFT



(a) whether after a fatal crash of an MIG-27 fighter aircraft in the recent past near Silliguri, the Indian Air Force has grounded its fleet of Russian-make MIG-27 fighter aircraft;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the defects had been reportedly noticed in the engines earlier;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the details of the investigation conducted in the incident and outcome thereof?

(a) to (e): Appropriate precautionary measures are taken after every crash. Further, each crash of Indian Air Force aircraft is investigated through a Court of Inquiry and remedial measures are undertaken accordingly.
