Question : EARTH CAVING INCIDENT IN KARNATAKA



(a) whether the Government are aware that due to earth caving in Kallur, Gubbi Taluk, Karnataka a number of houses had been damaged;

(b) if so, whether the Government have sanctioned any financial assistance for shifting of the villagers;

(c) whether the Government have formulated any National Policy for Disaster Management to tackle such incidents; and

(d) if not, the time by which the same is likely to be formulated?

(a) & (b) No report has been received from the Government of Karnataka in this regard.

(c) & (d) It is primarily the responsibility of the State Government to undertake relief measures in the wake of natural calamities. The Government of India supplements the efforts of the State Government. There is a National Contingency Action Plan and specific action plans are drawn up keeping in view the nature, impact and intensity of the natural calamity. There is ready availability of funds under Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) for undertaking relief measures. During 2000-01, Rs.27.97 crore has been released to the State Government as Central share of CRF.
