Question : Rehabilitation Programmes for Prisoners

(a) whether there are rehabilitation programmes for prisoners lodged in prisons and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether such programmes have shown favourable outcome and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has conducted survey or collected feedback from inmates about such programmes and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether the programmes have led to inmates earning sufficient wages through their term at the prison and after and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) “Prisons” is a State subject as per entry 4 of List II of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India. Therefore, the administration and management of prisons is primarily the responsibility of the State Governments.
