Question : DISCUSSION ON INDIA`S N-DOCTRINE



(a) whether it has been reported that Chinese and Russian Presidents may discuss India`s nuclear doctrine;

(b) if so, whether India has been asked to explain the nuclear doctrine;

(c) whether both Russia and China have urged India and Pakistan to comprehensively implement the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1172 urging both the countries to roll back their nuclear weapons programme; and

(d) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) Government is not aware of such reports.

(b) No Sir.

(c) & (d) UN Security Council Resolution 1172 has been rejected by India as prescriptive and sovereignty violative. India`s views on that resolution have been conveyed to our interlocutors. India`s bilateral dialogue with key interlocutors is based on the premise that India is a state possessing nuclear weapons and will maintain a minimum credible nuclear deterrent in accordance with its own assessment of its national security requirements.
