Question : NEW COMMUNITY POLYTECHNIC CENTRES



(a) whether the Government plans to extend the community polytechnic scheme to all the Government and Government- aided polytechnics;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of new community polytechnic centres proposed to be set up in Maharashtra during the current year under the scheme; and

(d) the fresh steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to attract rural youths to join the courses being run by the community polytechnic centres?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) As on date there are 617 community polytechnics all over the country. Out of 617 community polytechnics, 552 are running in Government and Government-aided polytechnics in the country.

(c) The new community polytechnics are being set up on request from the respective State Governments. This Ministry has already written to all the State Directorates of Technical Education for forwarding the proposals of Government and Government-aided polytechnics of their state to this Ministry for consideration and their coverage under the scheme. This Department has so far not received any proposal from the State Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra. As on date there are 50 community polytechnic in the state of Maharashtra.

(d) Under the scheme of community polytechnics, a job oriented non-formal training of 3-6 months duration in about 135 trades is conducted. To make the scheme more attractive for rural youths, the scheme has been restructured. In addition to normal courses, competency based training modules are also being introduced in these trades where the job potential is more.
