Question : POST OFFICES IN MAHARASHTRA AND JHARKHAND



(a) the number of post offices functioning in the rural areas of Maharashtra and Jharkhand States;

(b) the number of villages in the above states where facility of Post Office has not been provided so far; and

(c) the action taken by the Government to open Post Offices in such villages ?

(a) The number of Post Offices functioning in rural areas of Maharashtra and Jharkhand are 11168 and 2776 respectively.

(b) 28857 villages in Maharashtra State and 20182 villages in Jharkhand State are not provided with Post Office. However, the facility for sale of stamps, collection and delivery of mails exists in all the villages in these States.

(c) Target for opening of 30 Extra Departmental Branch Post Offices (EDBOs) and 5 Departmental Sub Offices (DSOs) for Maharashtra and 10 EDBOs for Jharkhand has been fixed. The opening of the Post Offices is subject to fulfillment of prescribed norms and availability of requisite resources.
