Question : STORAGE CAPACITY FOR ARMS AND AMMUNITIONS



(a) whether the sheds in Bharatpur Army Depot were sufficient to store the arms and ammunitions;

(b) if not, the reasons for keeping excess ammunitions in these sheds; and

(c) the reasons for not taking any steps in time to build sufficient sheds to store the arms and ammunitions?

(a) At Ammunition Depot Bharatpur 23000 Metric tonne of the ammunition stock was in conformity with the capacity authorised both for open plinths and covered storage. Because of operational requirement, including for OP Vijay, approximately 7000 Metric tonne of ammunition was held over and above the capacity of the Depot.
