(a) the details of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Automotive Sector, the schemes of Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) and Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) along with the budgetary outlay for each

(b) whether these schemes have gained huge success in terms of applications received from local as well as globally headquartered groups;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the number of companies which have filed their application under the PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Component Industry in India, till date?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (D) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 269 FOR 22.03.2022 ASKED BY SHRI JAGDAMBIKA PAL AND SHRI P.P. CHAUDHARY REGARDING “PLI SCHEMES”.


(a): Sir, the details are as under:

Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Automotive Sector: The Government on 15th Sep., 2021 approved the PLI Scheme for Automotive Sector with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 25,938 crores. The details of the scheme as notified is at ANNEXURE-I.

PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC): The Government on 12th May, 2021 approved PLI Scheme for manufacturing of ACC in the country with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 18,100 crore. The scheme envisages to establish a competitive ACC battery manufacturing set up in the country for 50 GWh. Additionally, 5GWh of niche ACC technologies is also covered under the Scheme. The details of the scheme as notified is at ANNEXURE-II.

Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India): The Government notified Phase-II of FAME India Scheme initially for a period of three years commencing from 1st Apri1, 2019 with a total budgetary support of Rs. 10,000 crore. The Scheme was extended for a further period of 2 years up to 31st March 2024. The details of the scheme as notified is at ANNEXURE-III.

(b) to (d): Sir, under PLI Scheme for Automotive Sector an overwhelming response has been received with a total of 115 companies filing their applications within the due date of 9th Jan 2022. Under the Champion OEM category, 20 applicants have been approved and under Component Champion category, 75 applicants have been approved, with a total proposed investment of Rs. 74,850 crore against target estimate of Rs. 42,500 crore, over a period of 5 years. Apart from Indian business groups, approved applicants include groups from countries such as Japan, Germany, USA, UK, Republic of Korea, Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy.

Further, the Ministry of Heavy Industries, released the Request for Proposal (RFP) on 22nd October 2021, inviting bids from domestic and international players for setting up manufacturing facilities for ACC Battery Storage in India. In response to the RFP, a total of 10 domestic/ international manufacturers submitted their proposals for 128GWh capacity, which is 2.6 times the capacity to be awarded i.e. 50 GWh.
