Question : AYUSH COLLEGES AND RESEARCH INSTITUTES



(a) the number of Government and private Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) institutes including research institutes and colleges, separately indicating the number of seats therein, State/UT-wise;

(b) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to set up/recognise new AYUSH research institutes and colleges/ universities and upgrade the existing institutes along with the criteria therefor and the funds earmarked, allocated and utilized for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year, State/ UT-wise;

(c) the number of proposals received from various States/UTs in this regard and the action taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government thereon during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(d) the other measures being taken by the Government to promote education and research under AYUSH system of medicines to promote research in AYUSH; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to introduce a new legislation/policy to promote and popularize AYUSH system of medicines nationally and interna- tionally and if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYURVEDA, YOGA & NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK)

(a): The statements showing number of Government and private Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) institutes and colleges, separately indicating the number of seats therein, State/UT-wise are annexed at Annexure-1 to 4. Inputs have been obtained from the Research Desk of the Ministry of AYUSH on the Research Institutes in AYUSH according to which the number of Research Ins- titutions/Centres of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) State/UT-wise is annexed at Annexure-5.

(b) & (c): The statements showing number of proposals received by the Government to set up/recognise new AYUSH research institutes and colleges/universities and upgrade the existing institutes along with the criteria therefor during each of the last three years and the current year and the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government thereon, State/UT-wise are annexed at Annexure- 6 & 7. The statements showing funds earmarked, allocated and utilized for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise are annexed at Annexure- 8;

(d): The Government has following organisations to promote education and research under AYUSH system of medicines to promote research in AYUSH: i. Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) ii. Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) iii. Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) iv. Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) v. Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi vi. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi vii. National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune, Maharashtra viii. National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, Rajasthan ix. Institute of Post-graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (IPGT&RA), Jamnagar, Gujarat x. National Institute of Siddha (NIS), Chennai, Tamil Nadu xi. National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Bengaluru, Karnataka xii. National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Kolkata, West Bengal The Government has also taken steps to establish following organisations to promote education and research under AYUSH system of medicines to promote research in AYUSH: i. All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi ii. North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shilong, Meghalaya iii. North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM), Passighat, Arunachal Pradesh The Government has following regulatory councils under AYUSH system of medicines: i. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi ii. Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), New Delhi

(e): No Sir, however, the Government has following legislations in place to strengthen the AYUSH systems: i. The Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act, 1970 ii. The Homoeopathy Central Council (HCC) Act, 1973 iii. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940
