(a) the position of waiting list for telephone connections in major towns, district headquarters and rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir as on April 30, 2002;

(b) the details of new telephone connections provided during each of the last three years alongwith the amount spent thereon;

(c) the details of major achievements in the telecommunications sector alongwith the total funds provided during the last two years for Jammu and Kashmir; and

(d) the details of new schemes approved under consideration of the Government for Jammu and Kashmir?

(a) The waiting list position on 30-04-2002 is as under:

(i) Net Switching Capacity addition : 47,800 Lines
(ii) DELs to be provided : 48,000 Nos.
(iii) New Exchanges : 10 Nos.
(iv) Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) : 700 Route Kms.
(v) Microwave : 300 Route Kms.
In addition, Udhampur-Srinagar Optical Fibre Cable Project will be commissioned during this period.
