Question : COMPENSATION TO THE VICTIMS OF BOMB BLAST IN G.L. EXPRESS



(a) the number of persons killed/injured and the value of Railway property damaged in a bomb explosion in G.L. Express between Khandigar and Gareswar station in Kamrup district in Assam on July 31, 2000;

(b) the number of trains affected and diverted to different routes;

(c) whether the Government have announced to pay compensation to the victims of said accidents; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the amount of compensation has so far been paid to the victims?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS ( SHRI DIGVIJAY SINGH )

(a) In the bomb explosion in 5716 Up Katihar-Tezpur Express on 31.7.2000, 9 persons were killed and 12 persons were injured. The Value of Railway property damaged in the incident is approximately Rs.5,50,000/-.

(b) Following the bomb explosion and suspension of night running of trains in Assam area of Alipurduar Division, the number of trains affected is as follows:-

Metre Gauge - 12 trains
Broad Gauge - 12 trains


(c) Yes, Sir.

(d) No compensation has so far been paid. Compensation will be paid soon after the claims filed by the claimants are decree by Railway Claims Tribunal.
