(a): There is no separate classification for cheap and inferior cotton textiles under ihe Harmonized System
of Classification. However, details of cotton yam & fabrics; readymade garments (woven & knitted); and made
-ups textiles articles imported from various countries during the last financial year {April-February- 2008-09
(provisional)} and the preceding three years are as follows:

(b) & (c): Under the provisions of World Trade Organization, a member country cannot put restrictions on import of any
particular item from another country. The import tariffs in India provide for application of ad-valorem duty or specific
duty, on whichever is higher basis, in respect of the1 majority of cotton fabrics and garments, which protects the domestic
industry from cheap imports.
