(a) and (b) ‘Sports’ being a State subject the responsibility for providing sports facilities, including academies rests with the State / Union Territory Governments. Central Government supplements efforts of the State/UT Governments. The Government has not formulated any scheme to set up sports academy at district level in the country. However, under the vertical
of Support to National/Regional/State Sports Academy of Khelo India Scheme a total of 99 Sports Academies (32 SAI and 67 Non-SAI) have been accredited for providing financial assistance for training of talented sportspersons. 1,388 Khelo India Athletes are getting trained in these Academies. Further, Sports Authority of India (SAI) has 21 National Centers of Excellence and 69 SAI Training Centers for training of athletes.
(c) There is no National Sports Academy in Chhattisgarh. However, one Khelo India accredited Sports Academy, namely the Chhattisgarh Sports Academy is catering to the athletes of Fencing at Bilaspur. Further, Sports Authority of India (SAI) has established two SAI Training Centers in the State of Chhattisgarh at Raipur and Rajnandgaon. Presently, there are 103 trainees (50 Boys & 53 Girls) in the discipline of Archery, Badminton, Football, Judo, Volleyball, Basketball & Hockey in these centers.
(d) and (e) Under the vertical of Sports for Peace and Development in the Khelo India Scheme, financial assistance of Rs.80.00 lakhs was provided to Chhattisgarh during 2018-19 to conduct sports activities in Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas in the districts identified by Ministry of Home Affairs. All State Governments including Government of Chhattisgarh has been requested to apprise / encourage maximum number of school for Fit India School ranking system wherein the need for daily participation of all students in Sports and Games has been emphasized.
