Question : DEMAND OF POWER IN GUJARAT



(a) the estimated demand of power in the country by the year 2005, State-wise, particularly in Gujarat;

(b) whether the existing power plants are likely to be able to meet the power demand and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the total power generating capacity of the existing power plants at present, State-wise;

(d) whether the Government of Gujarat has requested for more share of power from central pool; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) & (b) : The estimated demand of power in the country by the year 2005, State- wise including Gujarat is at Annex-I. The energy deficit and peak deficit during 2002-03 was 48085 MUs (8.8%) and 9945 MW (12.2%) respectively.

(c) : The total power generating capacity of the existing plants at present State-wise is given at Annex-II.

(d) & (e) : Yes, Sir. Gujarat Government has been requesting the Central Government to give more power from the unallocated quota of Inter State Generating Stations from Western Region or from other stations. Gujarat has a firm allocation of 1537 MW from Central Power Generating Stations in Western Region. In addition Gujarat has been allocated 164 MW from unallocated quota of Central Generating Stations in Western Region and 80 MW from unallocated quota/surrendered share of NTPC power stations in Eastern Region.
