Question : HORMONAL INJECTABLE CONTRACEPTIVES



(a) whether the Government had conducted any study before introduction of hormonal injectables contraceptives for women in the National Family Planning Programme;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to ban hormonal injectable contraceptives-Net En and Depo Provera-as being hazardous to women`s health?

(a) & (b): Sir. Injectable Contraceptives have not been included in the Family Welfare Programme, however clinical studies are being conducted by Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi and National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai on Cyclofem, a monthly Injectable Contraceptive, and NET-EN a 2 monthly Injectable Contraceptive respectively
