Question : LOSSES IN AIR INDIA

(a) the total losses incurred by the Air India during the last three years upto March 2000, year-wise;

(b) whether the case for revival of Air India was never referred to BIFR; and

(c) if so, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI SHARAD YADAV)

(a) Details of losses during last three years are as under:-

1997-98	Rs.181.01 crores.	1998-99	Rs.174.48 crores.	1999-00(Prov)	Rs.75.30 crores.

(b) and (c) Since Air India`s net worth during last three years has been positive and it has not suffered cash losses during the same period, it does not come within the meaning of `sick industrial company` as defined under the Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act,1985. Hence Air India has not been referred to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR).
