(a) the number of sponge iron plants of the public sector set up in the country as on date, State-wise;
(b) the number of employment opportunities created as a result thereof;
(c) whether any provision has been made to provide certain percentage of jobs to the local people;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the action taken in this regard so far?

(a) As on date there is only one sponge iron plant in the public sector- M/s
Sponge Iron (India) Limited (SIIL), a Govt. of India Undertaking at Paloncha,
Khammam District in Andhra Pradesh.
(b) At present there are 306 employees in SIIL.
(c)to(e): For recruitment of worker and supervisors, preference is given to
only local people, whereas the officers are recruited on an All India basis.
At present more than 95% employees in SIIL are local.
