Question : Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express

(a) whether it is a fact that in spite of operational feasibility, the NDLS-ADI Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express has not been extended upto Rajkot and if so, the reasons therefor;

(b) whether any representations have been received to carry out all types of maintenances at New Delhi instead of Ahmedabad, which would enable the rake for extension upto Rajkot and if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon;

(c) whether the said rakes could be utilized for extension upto Rajkot, like Gatiman Intercity Express during lie over period which could generate revenue to the Railways; and

(d) if so, the details of action taken in this regard and if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 51 BY SHRI D.S. RATHOD AND SHRI KUNDARIYA MOHAN BHAI KALYANJI BHAI TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 06.02.2019 REGARDING SWARNA JAYANTI RAJDHANI EXPRESS

(a): There is no proposal, at present, to extend 12957/12958 Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express upto Rajkot. Rajdhani Express class of trains are long distance fast moving trains, primarily meant for connecting National capital and State capitals. Further, there are terminal constraints at Rajkot.

(b): Yes, Madam. Representations including that from the Hon’ble Member of Parliament have been received for carrying out the maintenance of 12957/12958 Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express at New Delhi station. The same has been examined but not found feasible, at present.

(c) & (d): Owing to the fact that Rajdhani Express rakes require both-end maintenance and that 12957/12958 Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express has insufficient lie-over at Ahmedabad, extension of the said train upto Rajkot is not feasible without the induction of additional rake.
