Question : EXTERNAL DEBT



(a) the amount of financial assistance provided as also utilization made in rupees provided to India by the World Bank during each of the last three years, project-wise, state-wise;

(b) whether project proposals for financial assistance to be provided by the World Bank during the current year has been approved;

(c) if so, the States where the amount of assistance is being spent for completion of projects; and

(d) India’s position in the world in terms of receipt and payment of external debt?

(a) A list detailing financial assistance received from the World Bank (IDA & IBRD) during last three years is at Annexure A & B. Amount utilised during last three years is at Annexure C & D.

(b) & (c) Loan agreements for the following three Projects have been signed for World Bank assistance during the current year 2009-10:

(i) Additional Financing for Small & Medium Enterprise–US$ 400 million-Multi State;

(ii) Uttar Pradesh Sodic Lands Reclamation Project- Phase III – US$197 Million; and

(iii)Madhya Pradesh District Poverty Initiative Project-II – US$100 million.

(d) India’s position in the world is third in terms of receipt (disbursement) and fourth in repayment of external debt amongst the top twenty debtor countries in the year 2007.
