Question : PERFORMANCE OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES



(a) whether the Experts Committee have reviewed the performance of Small Scale Industries, Sector-wise and State-wise in general and Maharashtra in particular over the past five years in terms of standard norms year-wise;

(b) if so, the details thereof in terms of targets set and achieved;

(c) the details of major policy initiatives taken recently/proposed to improve the performance of small scale sector in the light of recommendations made memorandum received and implementation thereof; and

(d) the details of action plan formulated to deal the major problems faced by small scale sector during 2000-2001?

(a) & (b): The Expert Committee on Small Enterprises reviewed the performance of Small Scale Industries on a country wide and sector wise basis. A state wise review was not done nor any targets laid down.

(c) & (d): A comprehensive policy package for the development of small scale industries has been announced on 30th August 2000. The policy package will enhance the competitiveness of small-scale industries through easier access to credit, availability of collateral free composite loan up to Rs. 25.00 lakhs, capital subsidy for technology upgradation and improved infrastructure.
