(a) : Yes, Sir. Several International Conference and Business Meets were organized
during the period from August, 2001 to February 2002 in connection with various aspects
of power policy.
(b) : The Electricity Act, 2003 that has come into force w.e.f. 10th June, 2003
consolidates the laws relating to generation, transmission, distribution, trading and use of
electricity and provides measures for development of electricity industry, promoting
competition therein, protecting interest of consumers and supply of electricity to all areas.
Under the provisions of section 3 of the Act, the Central Government is required
to formulate National Electricity and Tariff Policy in consultation with the State
Governments and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). Consultations have been
initiated. Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is required to advise the
Central Government on formulation of National Electricity Policy and Tariff Policy. Its
advice has been received.
