Question : HYDRO POWER PROJECTS

(a) the details of hydro power projectscommissioned/completed during the lastthree years and the current year in thecountry along with their power generationcapacity, State/UT-wise, project-wise;

(b) whether the Government has madeany survey of the old and inefficient hydropower plants for renovation andmodernization in the country;

(c) if so, State-wise details thereof alongwith the total number of hydro power plantsrenovated and modernized during the lastthree years and the current year, State/UT/project-wise; and

(d) the total expenditure incurred on therenovation and modernization of theseplants along with the power capacityenhanced as a result thereof, project-wise,State/UT-wise?

(a) : During the last three years and the current year, a hydro capacity of 2453 MW has been commissioned/completed. The details of these projects, State/Project-wise, are at Annex-I.

(b) : Government of India has set up a National Committee in 1987 and a Standing Committee in 1998 and have identified the projects/schemes to be taken up for implementation under Renovation & Modernization (R&M). Central Electricity Authority(CEA) has prepared the National Perspective Plan document for R&M of hydro electric power projects in the country in the year 2000, incorporating the status of various projects/schemes already identified for implementation/completion till the end of 11th Plan (upto March, 2012).

(c) & (d): State-wise details of hydro power projects renovated and modernized during the last three years and executed/under execution during the current year along with the total expenditure incurred and power capacity enhanced as a result of R&M is given at Annex-II.
