(a): The Group-wise estimated number of sanctioned posts in the Ministries/Departments in the Central Government as
on 1.3.2011 is given in the table below:-

Erstwhile Group D posts have been categorised as Group C after implementation of 6th Central Pay Commission.
(b) & (c): The data about total number of jobs earmarked for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the posts
and services of the Central Government is not centrally maintained.
Instructions exists that reservation is to be provided in accordance with the reservation policy of the Government.
The percentage of reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Central Government services, wherever
applicable, is as under:-
(i) 15% and 7.5% reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, respectively, is available in case of direct recruitment on all India basis by open competition in all Groups viz. A, B and C (including erstwhile Group D posts).
(ii) 16.6% and 7.5% reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, respectively, is available in case of direct recruitment on all India basis otherwise than by open competition in all Groups viz. A, B and C (including erstwhile Group D posts)
(iii) In case of direct recruitment to Group C (including erstwhile Group D posts) which normally attracts candidates from a locality or a region, the percentage of reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is generally fixed in proportion to their population in the respective States/UTs (as per Annexure)
(iv) 15% and 7.5% reservation is available to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, respectively, upto the lowest rung of Group ‘A’ in case of promotion by selection method. Reservation in promotion by non-selection method is available to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in all Groups viz. A, B, C (including erstwhile Group D posts) at the same rates.
