Question : Bharatmala Project

(a) the extent to which the Government has achieved the objectives of the Bharatmala Project being implemented in the country;

(b) whether the Government has conducted any study to ascertain the impact of the said project on strengthening border and coastal road networks in the country, if so, the details and the outcome thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the details of the budgetary allocation made and its utilization under the said project since inception;

(d) the number of complaints of irregularities in implementation of the said project which have come to the notice of the Government since inception along with the action taken thereon; and

(e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to complete the project in a time-bound manner?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 124 ON 26TH JULY, 2018 ASKED BY SHRI SANJAY DHOTRE AND SHRI RAHUL SHEWALEREGARDING ‘BHARATMALA PROJECT’

(a) Out of the total length of 34800 kms including 10,000 kms of residual NHDP projects approved to be developed under Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I, projects for a length of about 6320 kms has been awarded upto June, 2018.

(b) Detailed study of the freight movement between all districts have been conducted along with geo-informatic inputs. Various routes have been identified for development of infrastructure along border and coastal roads to boost export and import trade along with port connectivity routes to improve the efficiency of freight movement to the ports and coastal zones in the country. As such, a total length of about 2000 kms for border and international connectivity roads and approximately 2000 kms of coastal and port connectivity roads have been considered for development under Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I.

(c) Out of the total financial outlay of Rs. 5,35,000 crores allocated for Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I, projects with financial implication of approximately Rs. 1,44,300 crores for a length of about 6320 kms have been awarded.

(e) To achieve timely completion of Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I, the preparation of DPR and implementation of civil works is closely monitored at appropriate level.
