Question : REVIEW OF SELECTION PROCESS OF PLAYERS



(a) whether the Government has reviewed/conducted any study on the selection process of players of concerned sports federations, whose players have not won any medals during the last ten years;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the corrective measures taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) & (d):The Government has issued Guidelines about the formation of Selection Committees with the President of the sports Federation as the Chairman, with Chief Coach and an eminent sportsperson, preferably an Arjuna awardee as its members though the selection of sportspersons for participating in international sports events is the prerogative of the National Sports Federation concerned, the Government also appoints eminent sportspersons as its Observer in some of the sports disciplines to oversee the selection process.
