Mines under WCL
3119. SHRI CHANDRA PRAKASH JOSHI:
Will the Minister of COAL be pleased to state:
(a) the number of mines allocated to Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and the details of mines where coal production work is in progress along with the coal produced at each of these mines during each of the last three years and the current year;
(b) whether the WCL proposes to augment its existing capacity by 150 per cent by 2020;
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the manner in which it is likely to be done;
(d) whether the Government has received any proposal from other Public Sector Undertaking to augment their production capacity on the lines of WCL; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER

(a): List of working mines as on 01.10.2015 and coal production of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) during last three years & current year upto November 2015 (Provisional) are as Annexure-I.
(b) & (c): WCL has planned to augment its capacity from 41.15 Mt. in 2014-15 to 60 Mt by 2020, by revisiting the earlier non-viable projects with approved revised norms, alternate options, resolving the pending issues with the stake holders and strictly adhering to a preset schedule. WCL has opened eleven new projects (Greenfield/ Brownfield) in eleven months since January 2015, till November 2015. Further, action has been initiated for formulation of other project reports.
(d) & (e): Coal India Limited (CIL) has prepared a roadmap to augment production capacity to 1 Billion Tonne by 2019-20. It has already identified projects for 908 Million Tonnes. Subsidiary-wise breakup is given as under:
