Question : Expansion of Fleet Size of Airlines

(a) whether most of the top airlines in the country are preparing to increase their fleet size in the next few years, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether six airports which attract almost 70 percent of domestic traffic may not be able to accommodate too many new aircraft due to capacity constraints, if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether due to huge delay in arrival and departure of flights, fuel consumption increase and takes a toll on the utilization of the aircraft; and

(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): As on date, Aircraft Acquisition plans of various private airlines, as per details provide by the respective airlines to Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Air India are as under:;

Name of Airline Aircraft Acquisition plan;
InterGlobe Aviation Limited (Indigo) 59(in the next 3 years);
Go Airlines (India) Pvt. Limited 63(in the next 5 years);
Spicejet Limited 27(in the next 5 years);
Air Asia (India) Limited 27(in the next 5 years);
Jet Airways (India) Limited 55(in the next 5 years);
TATA SIA Airlines Limited 07(in the next 2 years);
Air India Limited 49(in the next 2 years);

(b) to (d): No such study has been conducted. However, Government and Airport operators time to time takes various steps keeping in view to meet the future demand arising out of the increase in the fleet size and passenger traffic like runway expansion, increase in runways, revision of master plan, construction of new airports, modernization of airports etc.
