Question : CLOSURE OF TEACHERS TRAINING INSTITUTES



(a) whether there is any proposal to close down the teachers training institutions which do not adhere to the norms/regulations of National Council of Teachers Education during 2002-2003;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether NCTE has issued/propose to issue any guidelines in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a & b) Under the provisions of Section 14 and 15 of the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993, the Regional Committees of the Council grant recognition/permission to the institutions offering courses in teacher education subject to their fulfilling the norms, standards and other conditions laid down in the regulations of the Council. However, recognition can be withdrawn for contravention of provisions of National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993, and regulations/orders issued thereunder.

(c & d) The Council have published the revised norms and standards for grant of recognition of teacher education programmes in the Gazette of India dated 4th September, 2001.
