Question : STERILISATION



(a) whether the male participation under sterilisation programme in the country has shown a declining trend;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) the number of male and female sterilisation operations conducted separately during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;and

(d) the corrective measures taken/being taken by the Government to increase and bring the male participation at par with the female participation under the family planning programmes?

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)

(a): Yes.

(b): 1. Since the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and the Crude Birth Rate (CBR) are declining the performance in sterilization is also declining in the country.

2. The Government is emphasizing more on spacing methods.

(c): As Annexed.

(d): The initiatives undertaken to increase male participation are:

1. Vasectomy week was observed from 7th-14th November 2014 in all states of India to raise awareness and promotion of male sterilization and male participation.

2. Under the enhanced compensation scheme the compensation for male sterilization has been further increased.

3. Home Delivery of Contraceptive Scheme through ASHAs aims at delivering contraceptives including condoms to the bene- ficiaries. The scheme is operational in all the States of India.
