Question : Expansion of Beyore Port

(a) whether the Government plans to improve Beypore port of Kerala and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government is considering to tap the potential of age old URU construction in Beypore, Kozhikode;
(c) whether the Government is taking any initiatives to hull large vessels at Beypore port;
(d) the details of the steps being taken to promote people and cargo movement between Lakshadweep and Beypore port;
(e) whether the Government is taking any steps to check the inordinate delay faced by cargo handlers at Beypore port and if so, the details thereof; and
(f) whether the Government has allocated funds for development of Beypore port during the last three years and if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes Sir. Government of Kerala has prepared a Plan for the development of Beypore Port. It consists of following three stages.

Stage1:-Capital Dredging

Stage2: Development of Coastal Berth

Stage 3: Infrastructure & Equipment Faclility Development

(b) Yes Sir. Government of Kerala is considering on tapping the potential of age old URU construction in Beypore, Kozhikode;

(c) Yes Sir. Government of Kerala has plans to deep the ship channel in Beyore Port to initially 7 mtrs and then to 10 mtrs and to construct a 150 m wharf adjacent to the existing wharf.

(d) There is a continuous Cargo movement to Lakshadweep using LDCL (Lakshadweep Corporation Ltd.) Vessel and MSV (Uru). There were uninterrupted movements of cargo to Lakshadweep even during COVID pandemic.

(e) Government of Kerala has informed that there is no as such delay taken place to the cargo movement through Beypore Port to Lakshadweep.

(f). Government of Kerala has allocated the funds as per details annexed.
