Question : Rural Sports

(a) whether CSR funds are spent for promoting rural sports, but no decision has been taken about percentage of CSR fund to be spent per annum for this purpose;
(b) if so, the reaction of the Government in this regard; and
(c) the quantum of CSR fund allocated/utilised for promoting rural sports during the last three years?

(a) & (b): National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) receives contribution. Government makes matching contribution to the NSDF. Out of the accumulations available with NSDF, funds are utilized as per objectives of NSDF for various activities in relation to promotion of sports in general and specific sports disciplines and individual sports persons in particular, for achieving excellence at the National and at international level, to impart special training and coaching in relevant sports disciplines to sports persons, coaches and sports specialists, to construct and maintain infrastructure for promotion of sports and games, etc. Assistance is also provided for the sports in rural areas.

(c) Under TOP Scheme, athletes are categoried as Core and Development Groups who are being groomed for Tokyo 2021, Paris 2024 and Los Angles 2028 Olympics Games. There are104 and 269 sportspersons in TOPS Core Group and Development Group respectively so far. These athletes primarily come from rural areas.

The NSDF has also allocated fund for infrastructure development during the last three years as per details below:
