Question : AYUSH TREATMENT .



(a) the fund allocation and utilisation by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) and Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) the number of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) colleges set up and the number of students passed out from these colleges during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(c) the number of AYUSH hospitals set up during the said period indicating the number of patients received/treated by them, stream and State/UT-wise;

(d) whether facilities for treatment of mentally retarded persons including children are available in AYUSH hospitals, and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the steps being taken by the Government to make drugs under AYUSH available to people at affordable cost and to ensure that these medicines are sold only through registered AYUSH pharmacists in the country?

(a): The details are given at Annexure-I.

(b): The State/UT-wise details of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy colleges set up during 2011-14 are given at Annexure-II. The yearly details of the students passed out from AYUSH colleges are not maintained at the central level.


(c): As per information furnished by the State Governments, the State/UT-wise details of AYUSH hospitals setup during 2011-14 are given at Annexure-III. Stream-wise data regarding number of patients received/ treated are not maintained at the central level.

(d): Facilities are available at Advance Centre for Ayurveda in Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (ACAMHNS), Bangaluru, an institute under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences(CCRAS).
(e): Government run AYUSH Hospitals and dispensaries provide Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy medicines free of cost.
In order to increase availability of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs for patients, a provision has been made under National AYUSH Mission (NAM) to grant financial assistance to States/ UTs.
Under the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act and Rules made thereunder, no license is required for sale of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicines; but required for sale of Homoeopathy medicines. State Licensing Authorities enforce the legal provisions for the sale of Homoeopathy medicines.
