Question : PROCUREMENT BY NAFED



(a) whether the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has not made any arrangement for procurement of oilseeds including mustard from the farmers due to shortage of godowns in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(d) the details of agricultural produce procured by NAFED during the last three years and the current year, State-wise and year-wise?

(a) to (c): NAFED has informed that they have made all necessary arrangements for procurement of oilseeds including mustard seed covered under Price Support Scheme well in advance in coordination with designated agencies in all the producing States during Rabi and Kharif 2009 so as to give benefit of the scheme to the farmers.

(d): A statement indicating the details of procurement of Oilseeds and Cotton under Price Support Scheme (PSS) during last 3 years are given at Annexure-I &II. NAFED has also procured a quantity of 482 MTs of Urad Wholw under PSS in West Bengal during Kharif 2008-09 season.
